TOTUMA LAB.#MYFLORBYTOTUMA

Our first FLOR rug ( Space Invader inspired ) was made for the inauguration of our previous studio in Midtown Miami. Click link at the end.

FLOR watched the video and our “Adiós Caracas” rug***, and they loved them. So they offered us to “do something” in their beautiful Design District Store during Art Basel. Of course we were crazy enough to say yes.

In less that two weeks we produced two “big” rugs ( Mona Lisa and Marilyn ) and several “small” rugs ( pixel art inspired ), all without losing a single finger. The funny thing is that a lot of people now think we design rugs for a living ( 15 years creating motion graphics for nothing )

We’re extremely happy that our little experiment has been a success ( we have a couple of interesting rug related job offers, and eboy ( our Pixel Art heroes ) wants to collaborate and “do something” for next year. : )

We’re looking forward to keep on doing this kind of crazy projects.

Thanks to FLOR and specially to Joanne Duran, the store manager, for let us play with their product. :)

***Thousands of Venezuelan have left the country in the last decade, and most do through the Simón Bolivar International Airport. This rug mimics the design on the airport floor, an art piece called “Cromo interferencia de color aditivo" designed by kinetic artist Carlos Cruz Diez. Is one of the last things that people see before emigrating.

The family of the artist wasn’t really flattered with our creation so, out of respect for Cruz-Diez, the rug was removed from the Expo. But, as the saying goes: “It’s better to ask forgiveness than permission” ;)
